Perimenopause and Menopause are natural phases in a woman's life, but they can bring about various symptoms and health considerations.

Symptoms of Menopause

The following evidence-based answers are supported by reputable sources such as JAMA, NICE, Nature, The Lancet, and the European Congress on Menopause and Andropause amongst others.

Impact Work, sleep & daily activities

Many women experience sleep problems during midlife, often linked to Perimenopause and Menopause. Night sweats and other symptoms can make it difficult to get quality rest, but even women without these symptoms can struggle with sleep. Poor sleep has been shown to affect job performance and, in some cases, lead to unemployment. This study estimates the financial impact of sleep disturbances in midlife women, showing that lost productivity costs the economy around $2 billion per year.

Perimenopause and Menopause Symptoms

Common (peri)menopausal symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, vaginal dryness, mood swings, dry skin, joint pain and cognitive changes. Keeping a symptom diary can help track their frequency and severity.

Perimenopause and Menopause triggers

Using a symptom tracker may help better identify and avoid triggers, ultimately helping to better manage your symptoms.

Cycle changes/irregular periods

Irregular periods are common during perimenopause. Once you’ve stopped having your period for more than a year you are officially in menopause. If you’re having significant changes or pain this should be discussed with your healthcare provider.
